The Davis Swing Kids

The Davis Swing Kids was founded in 1993 by Barbara Nicholas, the owner of Barbara's Dancing Tonight.  Over the years, kids from Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Winters and Sacramento have shared in this dance experience.  The Davis Swing Kids is a performance dance troupe made up of junior and senior high school boys and girls that share a passion for swing dancing.  The greatest thing about this troupe is no prior dance experience is necessary to be a Swing Kid; just the desire to swing.  The program runs through the school year (Oct-June) with rehearsals twice a week.  It is very easy to learn to dance in the fun and relaxed atmosphere of the studio.

What is the practice schedule like?
Practices are two and a half hours a week. The Swing Kids met from 5:00 - 6:30 PM on Tuesday and 5:00 - 6:00 PM on Thursday. 

How about performances?
There is generally about one performance every month and a half.  They usually take place on weekends, so they will not interfere with the dancers' school schedules.

And the fees?  Dance is expensive, right?  All the costumes and high-end shoes, etc…
Swing kids is generally very affordable.  The weekly rehearsal fee is $15 per person, although deductions will be made for pro-rated sessions (those that fall on holidays or during vacation times).  Shoes cost between $25.-$60. and many times shoes can be found cheaper online or through sales at local stores.  Costumes are generally between $50.-$75.

Attention Teens:  The Davis Swing Kids Dance Troupe 12th season begins Tuesday, Sept 18th at Barbara's Dancing Tonight Studio, 1921 Sycamore Lane, Davis, from 5-6:30pm. 

Boys and girls (ages 10-17 years) who are interested in swing dancing are welcome to come try out the Swing Kids for the first two weeks.  Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays 5-6:30pm and Thursdays 5-6pm. During the first two weeks, in a very relaxed atmosphere, we will teach the basic footwork of East Coast Swing, Charleston and Jitterbug, allowing students to try swing dancing before committing to the team.
